Detailed Description
Embark on a thrilling self-guided adventure to Lucerne’s mythical mountain, Pilatus, where legend and nature intertwine in the most captivating way. According to local lore, a dragon stone fell from the sky in 1420, Roman governor Pontius Pilate rests beneath the waters of Lake Pilatus, and a petrified man stands guard outside a hidden cave. Rising majestically to 2128 meters, the Pilatus massif enchants the imagination and invites you to uncover its many mystical secrets and stunning natural wonders.
Take a panoramic gondola ride to the peak of Mount Pilatus, where you’ll feel like you’re soaring through the sky in the new “Dragon Ride,” complete with massive windows offering an unobstructed view of the breathtaking landscape. From the top, behold a breathtaking vista of 73 Alpine peaks, while enjoying a meal or a drink on one of the terraces, 2132 meters above sea level. Step into the fascinating Dragon World exhibition, where interactive displays and immersive storytelling bring the legendary dragons of Pilatus to life, offering an engaging experience for visitors of all ages. Emjoy the flower trail, panoramic terraces and savoury restaurants as souvenirs shops.
For a unique descent, ride the world’s steepest cogwheel railway, feeling the adrenaline as you glide down the mountain, before arriving in Alpnachstad. From there, embark on a serene 15-minute boat cruise across the sparkling waters of Lake Lucerne, reaching the picturesque town of Lucerne.
Once in Lucerne, you’ll have time to explore this charming lakeside village — wander through the cobbled streets of the Old Town, admire the iconic Chapel Bridge, and marvel at the famous Lion Monument. The perfect end to a day full of adventure and awe-inspiring beauty.
